Small Pod Discussion
After watching the video, answer the questions below as we continue to discover what it means to number our days and prioritize relationships.
How has your view of time changed since you were 7, 15, 25, 35, 45, 55, or 65?
a) Individually, utilize the handout and take 5 minutes to qualify your:
-Big rocks (non-negotiable)
-Pebble (important)
-Sand (not important)
-Water (distracting – sometimes helpful, sometimes unhelpfully distracting)Suggestion: try to list out 3-5 different items for each category.
b) After 5 minutes, come back and discuss what you wrote. Also, proactively listen for potential ideas that you may not have included!
Read Psalm 90:12 and Proverbs 21:5.
Psalm 90:12 “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
Proverbs 21:5 “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.”
As you read about God’s larger perspective on life, what might God be saying to you about prioritizing friendships? OR, what wisdom about friendship can you learn from these texts?
a) Reflect on your normal week. Take the next 5 minutes to fill in the “prioritize relationship” timeline. What are moments e.g., lunch, coffee, extracurricular activities… that you might leverage to bring along a friend to prioritize/deepen friendship? What “sand” or “water” activities can you substitute with relationships?
b) After filling out the timeline, find a person you did not come with to Church Home and share:
i) what you discovered about how you use your time
ii) one next step you commit to take
Finally: what will you take away from Church Home? It can be something you talked about, learned, felt, sensed, saw…
Ending Prayer
Jesus, would You heal our broken relationships? Would You help us to live in deep community? Help me make friends and keep them as I live out my commitment to:
o play my part
o be honest
o restore
o pull people close
o work through the awkward
o stay
o and be patient
Your Word promises we can heal, we can forgive, we can overcome the divisions that threaten to keep us in isolation. Holy Spirit, help us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
